BaSix in Concert! (with Photos!)

Wow, Last night was a super amazing night! It came about because of some thoughts that I had over the summer. Lately I have been thinking a lot more seriously about going back home when I graduating and taking over the family farm with my brother. This being the case, it means that I will spend most of my life in the middle of nowhere. While I don't mind being in the middle of nowhere, there are a few things that I won't have if I move home. One of the main things I will not have is easy access to arts and cultural events.

That being the case, I found myself a few weeks ago walking through the HFAC (the fine arts building) looking at some of the posters for events that were coming up. I was looking to get tickets for Homecoming Spectacular, but some other upcoming events caught my eye.

One of these events was a show put on by an acapella group called Basix, out of Denmark. They are on their first tour of America and for some reason decided to stop at BYU. It looked interesting and so I bought some tickets...

Anyways, enough with the pre-ramble, on to the ramble!

So.. Last night was the show, and it was AMAZING! I haven't really been to many live acapella shows, but this one I think will stand out in my mind as the best. The songs were amazing, both the ones they covered, and their original songs. I think my all time favorite was "Angels" by Robbie Williams ("I'm loving angels instead.. and through it all.... she offers me protection, a lot of love and affection, whether I'm right or wrong.. and la la la la"). Many of their original pieces were instant favorites as well (wow, I just realized that I don't know how to describe musical events very well.. lol..). Their style varied from bass-heavy beats to wonderful 6 part vocals that were as clear something that is really clear and shiny. Wow. Anyways, check out their website for some samples of their music, or go buy it on iTunes...

Here are some pictures:

The Young American Executive

hmm, I was trying to think of a cool title for this post... "The Tempermental Executive," or "The (some cool word that ryhmns with Executive) Executive" ??? Hmm... oh well...

This is my Roommate, Duardo. We went up to conference together and when I pulled out my camera he started posing! It was great fun and I think I'll have to shoot him again soon. Now to find a good female counterpart for some sweet couple pics!...

General Conference

General Conference (of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) was wonderful! I went up with my cousin Darren (he's taking the last picture in the last picture) and a girly friend of his, as well as my roomate Duardo and his mother. I took a lot of random pictures and generally had a great time. I used to hate taking pictures of people, but now people are my favorite subjects for sure. I met some girls randomly who happened to be from my singles ward in Lethbridge, so that was really random. As I was taking some shots of them, a few people asked if I was taking pictures for the Ensign! I laughed and said "I wish!"

All in all it was a great day. We made it in to the Sunday Afternoon session, and it was great! I will be posting some pictures of my roommate, Duardo, tomorrow or sometime later, as they are a whole set by themselves (he got all into posing, and is very photogenic!.. lol). For now I present the following as a random sampling of my day.

Cheers!

To start off, an abstract of the Temple. I saw a print similar to this, but with bright red leaves in the bookstore selling for around $600 and so was trying to emulate it... not sure its the same quality, but I think I like it some...

Another of the temple. Tried several of the reflecting pool. Not sure if this one is my favorite, but its okay.

I was shooting my roommate and this little guy ran across in front of me and I quick got one shot in. Turns out I like it a lot!

Without further ado, the ladies! Nikole Burbank, and her friend, Janae Clarke, also from Lethbridge.
