A Day with Mel Torrie and Family

I went up today and spent the day with Melvin and his family. They just built a new house near Logan and it is really amazing... Every room is wired with little computer panels in the walls that do intercom stuff as well as control the sound system in every room. All the media is controlled with a media server in the basement and it is all pretty technical. The perfect place for a geek like me to spend the day! We went out and shot fall colours in a canyon up here. It was amazing.

After shooting for several hours, we came back and set up for a local camera club meeting that Mel was hosting. We were expecting around 20 people and only 6 or 7 showed up, but it was fun nonetheless. Melvin taught basic camera skills and settings, and another guy talked about panoramas in Photoshop. I then did a brief overview of Lightroom followed by some more in-depth coverage of layers and blending modes in Photoshop. It went pretty well. I think I like teaching people.

I will put some pictures up tomorrow, but for now I just wanted to write down what we did. I might start to do a bit more writing here on the blog, mostly for my own sake, so don't feel bad if you never read any of it. I think that writing is a good thing to do. It clears the mind, and is just fun sometimes. Plus I am going to print out my blog every year or something so I will have a journal of my year in photography. So why not include some text here and there?...

Cheers!

Chrome and Steel

Once again I was going through older photos and thought I would post some stuff I shot last semester, as I'm trying to get things thing to the point where it is a daily photo log of my work, which will hopefully get me shooting more and improving more. So anyways, here are some shots of some motorbikes and scooters that were parked outside the Tanner Building a while back.

edit: weird... there is a random black line that seems to appear around the last photo of most posts... hmm... will have the look at the template code... sigh... I don't know html well...

Shooter

Thanks to Kinsey I got some shots of me, shooting! I didn't get out and shoot anything today, so I thought I'd at least put some pictures I was working on up. Been feeling a bit under the weather, and didn't do much today.

I want to try some lightpainting, and also, try to make my own tilt/shift lens... We'll see how I do on those two things. I am also intrigued by camera tossing and thing I will go out and try it right now.. Why not?...

New Blog Look, and Borders!!

Well, I am trying out a new look for my blog, and I think I like it. Sometimes the background doesn't seem to load right but I'll get it all sorted out. Also, yesterday was my record day for visitors to the blog. 20 PEOPLE!!! IN THE SAME DAY!!! AMAZING! lol.

I just got a plugin for Lightroom 2 that can add borders or anything on its way to exporting to Flickr or Facebook or just to a file and thought I would try it out. I think with the new blog colours that I really need to put borders on the pictures... http://timothyarmes.com/lr2mogrify.php is the link to the Export Plugin (actually its called a post-export plugin)

edit: Man, that yellow colour looks sick.. I won't do that again I don't think. I was just trying to match the picture...

This is a flower.. ISO 1600 and quite grainy.. man, I need the new 5DmkII... I hear it has way better High-ISO performance. Or I could just buy NoiseNinja...

My own DOMAIN!!!

Mwa hahaha! I now have my own domain! My own little kingdom, over which I have complete and utter control!! Well, actually, its still hosted by Google, and I don't even know how to really edit html, so I guess its not really under my complete and utter domination... But it is a domain!

For all of my many many readers, don't worry, my old, inferior address (eat5hams.blogspot.com) will still point you here, to the more better and more wonderful, eat5hams.com!

BYU World of Dance 08

Yesterday I went to World of Dance here at BYU put on by the ballroom dance team, the folk-dance team, the Cougarettes, the Ballet team, and some others I am sure. It was the most amazing dance show I have ever been too. The lighting and stage design was absolutely amazing, and the choreography was stunning. I was really excited to take a ton of pictures but then they asked us not to take ANY photos.. I think they meant no flash photography, but I still felt guilted into only sneaking in a few here and there. so I really didn't get too many great ones, but here are a few that I liked.

The Cougarettes did some amazing dances. They really are amazing and I feel bad that they get a bad rap from sports events. They really aren't cheerleaders.

As I said, the lighting was amazing. This is just sort of an abstract photo, but I really like it...
